Moorish Synagogue
This was inaugurated in 1882 and is just west of Rue Sainte Catherine on Rue
du Grand Rabbin Joseph Cohen. It was used by the Nazis in WWII as a prison. It
is open Monday to Thursday from 5 to 6pm. Ring the bell at 213 RueSainte Catherine.
It is marked gardien.

Illustrates the history and ethnography of the area.
Musèe des Beaux-Arts
17th century Flemish, Dutch and Italian paintings. Closed Tuesday. 20 Cours d'Albert.

Musèe d'Art Contemporain
7 Rue Ferrère. Contemporary artists. Closed Monay. Free for students and
on the first Sunday of the month.
FOUNTAINS AND GARDENS
Esplanade des Quinconces
This is a fountain monument to the Girondins, a bourgeois legislative deputy
group during the French Revolution. It was laid out in 1820.
Jardin Public
An 18th century English park on Cours de Verdun. It includes the botanical garden
and the natural history museum.
BORDEAUX VINEYARDS
There are over 5000 wine producing chateaux around Bordeaux. Go to the tourist
information office in Bordeaux or to the office opposite. Smaller chateaux may
allow walk in visitors year round, the larger ones accept visitors only by appointment.
At some vineyards the tasting is free, others you may need to pay.
Saint Emilion
A medieval village 40km from Bordeaux. It is famed for its red wine. To get there
take a train (departs 7.10am or 9.10am on Sunday and at 1.30pm). CITRAM buses
go here five times a day. There may be a transfer.
