SPECIALITY FOOD
For some locally produced products go to Cannolive, 16-20 rue Vénizelos (tel. 04-93-39-08-19), for Provençal olives and their by-products--purées (tapenades) that connoisseurs refer to as "Provençal caviar," black "olives de Nice," and green "olives de Provence," as well as three grades of olive oil from several regional producers.

For other old-fashioned emporiums selling wine, olives, herbs, and oils, go to the rue Meynadier.

CAFES AND RESTAURANTS

The best place for budget eating is in La Condamine along Rue de la Turbie. In the streets leading off from Place du Palais are lots of touristy restaurants.

Stars n' Bars, 6 Quai Antoine 1er, is a blues bar and restaurant. It is open every day but Monday from noon to 3am but the restaurant closes at midnight.

À la Marée is a seafood restaurant, 10, boulevard Jean-Hibert Cannes, 06400 Tel: +33 4 92 98 03 33. It has great seafood and a view of the sea. Menu items include cassolette de fruits de mer (seafood stew), soupe de poisson (fish soup), noix de coquilles Saint-Jacques à la provençale (scallops à la provençale), darne de saumon safranée (salmon steak with saffron), bisque de homard (Lobster bisque), poêlée de calamars (squid), and huîtres gratinées (grilled oysters).

Galeries Lafayette - Department Stores is located near the train station

The Alexandra Department Stores are located at rond-point duboys d'Angers Phone 04-93-38-41-29. They sell a mixture of designer labels. Shopping here is first class.

The Emporio Armani is the cheaper version of Giorgio Armani. The address is 52, boulevard La Croisette Cannes, 06400 Tel: +33 4 93 38 05 90. Open Hours: 10am-7pm Mon-Sat

At the edge of the Quartier Suquet, the Marché Forville is the town's primary fruit, flower, and vegetable market. On Monday, it's a brocante market.
