FOCUS ON

Strange Foods in France

Food in France is famed for its many virtues - good wine, great cheese and long meals. But there are a few odd things you may come across. In France Steak Tartare is completely raw beef! You will also find snails, frog's legs, camel's feet and tripe (the lining of a cow's stomach) on menu's. Poutine is another odd favourite  - French Fries that are soaked with fatty gravy and topped by cheddar curd cheese. Tete de veau , or Calf's Head, is another delicacy. The fleshy bits of a calf's head are cooked and then cut into squares. It is served with strings of meat, a thick layer of gelatinous glop and the brains served in the corner of the plate.
